Broomsticks & Hammers continues and builds on the folk/roots tradition of taking songs grounded in stories of the human condition and backs them up with solid musicianship and exciting band dynamics. On record, the songs shine through alongside the band’s keen ear for thoughtful and sometimes quirky musical treatments. Live, the force of a seven-piece unit comes to the fore as the band traverses folk, rock, country, and even a little jazz and blues with ease. Fans of the roots music of Blue Rodeo, Dan Mangan, Ryan Adams, The Skydiggers, The Band, and others will find that Broomsticks & Hammers fits right in.

Broomsticks & Hammers was formed in 2013 by veteran London musicians David Jury, Bill Needham, and Breck Campbell. Since then the band has built a strong local fan base, playing local clubs, community-centred events, and supporting a variety of charitable causes.

Broomsticks & Hammers released its debut album Postcard in January 2016. The album charted steadily at CHRW Radio Western and was well-received at college stations nation-wide, reaching at #2 on the roots charts at CFBX in Kamloops, BC.

In April 2016 the band was honoured twice at the Jack Richardson London Music Awards with nominations in the Fan Favourite and Folk/Roots categories.

Broomsticks & Hammers won the 2016 Jack Richardson London Music Award for the Best Folk/Roots Group category.

In the Spring of 2016 the band expanded its line-up, adding an electric guitar and keyboards to the mix. July 2016 saw the band play the main stage at the venerable Canterbury Folk Festival in Ingersoll and played to a packed crowd on the main stage at the prestigious Home County Music and Art Festival in London. In August the band played at the inaugural season of Grand Bend’s Summer Sunset Sounds concert series. In September the band co-headlined (along with London favourites Kevin’s Bacon Train) the sold out “It’s Not, Not Country” showcase in downtown London as part of Canadian Country Music Awards Week, where thousands of music fans descended on the city for a week of live music.

In November 2016 Broomsticks & Hammers started recording their sophomore release, Mirror Box, at the Sugar Shack Studio in London with Juno-nominated producer/engineer Simon Larochette. Mirror Box will be released in May 2017.

January 2017 saw the band continue its annual tradition of packing London’s revered Call the Office for the third straight year. In February the band made its Toronto debut to a near capacity crowd at Toronto roots music hub The Dakota Tavern. In March 2017 Broomsticks & Hammers will join Canadian songwriting great Emm Gryner, along with the Marrieds, and Corduroy Gordon in a lead up show to the band’s upcoming performance at the River Rock Festival in St. Marys, Ontario in August 2017. The band will also play at Elora Riverfest that same month. In April 2017 the band will make its Windsor debut at the The Rondo.
